Weaving Waters in Yucatán, México

WEAVING WATERS IN YUCATÁN, MÉXICO

During the transdisciplinary Lab/Residency facilitated by LATIR, we immersed ourselves in a profound journey of living, creation, and collaboration with artists from Argentina, Chile, and Mexico. We also had the privilege of meeting and learning from a group of Mayan women, who shared their traditional embroidery practice with us, allowing us to explore textile co-creations about memory and place.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who made this possible: to the communities of Xocén and Valladolid for welcoming us, to LATIR for inviting us to be part of this Lab-Residency, and to Creative Australia and Arts Merri-bek for their support

We immersed ourselves in a poetic documentation place, engaging in explorations through embodied experiences, sensitive observation, conscious listening, dialogue, and openness.

We wove together images, drawings, sounds, and words, interlacing languages and sensations to unlock new perspectives and understandings of the territories and their contexts

This special journey came to life in two art exhibitions: one at the Museo de Ropa Étnica de México (MUREM) and another at the Casa Moloch art gallery, both located in the city of Valladolid.

We are pleased to share some documentation from the exhibition “Ofrendas al Centro del Mundo – Xocén Cenote Inclinado” (Offerings to the Center of the World – Xocén Inclined Cenote) at MUREM; as well as “Mujeres: Memorias de un transitar” (Women: Memories of a Journey), “Fragmentos de los márgenes de Valladolid” (Fragments from the Margins of Valladolid), and “Registros del Silencio” (Records of Silence), shown at Casa Moloch.

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to MUREM and Casa Moloch for welcoming us, exhibiting our work, and allowing us to be part of their artistic world.
