Weaving Waters in Naarm (May-June 2025)

We are deeply honoured to have shared this journey with all who participated in the Lab. Over the course of three weeks, between May 2nd and May 18th, we co-created a space of connection, reflection and care.

Weaving Waters was a transdisciplinary project that explored the intersection of arts, ecology and community through Latin American ecofeminisms and local perspectives.

Together, we walked the banks of Merri Merri, listened First Nations people, held space at Balam Balam Place and sat in circle - weaving, mapping, remembering, imagining. We grounded our artistic practices in the land, in our bodies and in each other’s stories. Through our Situated Weaving Methodology -refined during the LATIR residency in Mexico- we placed the creative process at the centre; valuing presence, dialogue and reciprocity over polished outcomes.

The presence of all the participants made this experience possible. Every contribution - through words, gestures, materials, insights and silences - helped build a collective memory that we now hold in common.

This lab was a first collective exploration. It confirmed to us that it is possible to co-create in a way that honours time, place and relational ways of working. We leave this process with gratitude, hope and the belief that this methodology can continue to grow - with more artists, activists and community members carrying it forward, adapting it to their own places and practices.

Thank you for your care, courage and commitment. We hope this is only the beginning and we continue weaving together the waters of Latin America and Naarm.

With Gratitude,

Colectiva Abya Yala
